BPT203 Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedics I 4 credits (40-10-10)

In this course, students will learn the principles of physical management of disorders of skeletal
muscle and adjoining tissues. This course will cover degenerative joint disorders (osteoarthritis,
cervical and lumbar spondylosis, intervertebral disc lesion) low back pain syndrome, infectious
joint disorders (osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, tuberculous arthritis, polyarthritis of unknown
cause, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, crystal
arthritis/gout).

Obstetrics – The structure, function and injuries of the pelvic floor, physiological and metabolic changes in pregnancy and complications, pre- and post-natal physiotherapy, parturition, cesarean section, weak abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. 

Gynaecology – Pelvic inflammatory diseases, incontinence, vesicovaginal fistula, pelvic floor repair (episiotomy), retroverted and prolapsed uterus, menopausal changes, physiotherapy in gynaecological disorders. 

In this course, students will be introduced to treatment concepts that treat and prevent the above- mentioned conditions.
